2013 EVS Biketour International Coordinators needed - Apply Now!
Greetings bicycle lovers,

While we all get excited about the upcoming Ecotopia Biketour 2012 through Catalunya, France and Italy, the wheels are already in motion for next year's cycling adventures. Ecotopia Biketour 2013 is looking for volunteers to help make this happen through the European Voluntary Service scheme.

Every summer for over 20 years the Ecotopia Biketour has been promoting sustainable living throughout Europe. Pedalling through a different part of the continent every year, the Biketour is for anyone interested in do-it-yourself culture, social and ecological justice. Moving all our stuff by muscle power, the Biketour links with local environmental campaigns en route by both taking part in and organising actions and workshops. We create an international, mobile eco-community while visiting interesting places on our way: alternative, environmental, artistic projects and communities, natural areas and people struggling for ecological and social justice.

The theme and the route of the Biketour 2013 is open to be shaped by our ideas and inspiration.

The EVS position would ideally begin in January 2013 and last for 1 year.

Biketour 2013 will be organised from Berlin in the office of EYFA. The ecotopia biketour coordinators will be be involved in the day to day running of EYFA and also helping to organise and fundraise for international gatherings and events planned by EYFA, especially in the first and final months when there is less to do with the biketour.

The EVS scheme will fund travel expenses to the host country, accommodation, food, insurance and pocket money for the volunteer. However, the position is not officially ‘paid.' The EVS scheme is open to those who are between 18 - 30 years old and live in a european country. If you are not in this category, get in touch as there are many other ways to get involved than through EVS so please contact us for more information.

DRAFT ROUTE PROPOSAL! dates, places and activities can still change a bit. Big cities are easiest to start joining biketour: Belgrade, Skopje, Ohrid (Struga), Durres (as we are there a few days and only one afternoon in Tirana), Podgorica, Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Zagreb. Of course you can be adventurous and join us from other places - but please let us know in advance.
Most of the time we are in the club house of Serbian Green Youth, address: Dr. Dragoslava Popovica 22 (old Beograd). See map.
* 6 July Belgrade
::Critical Mass through Belgrade center
::take a train to Skopje
:: Start at 10:00 PM from Belgrade train station on 6.07.09. and arrive on 07.07.09. at Skopje around 6:50 AM. This is a direct train with 2nd class only seated accommodation, Sleeping-car and Couchettes. Price per person approx € 20,- (not yet clear about bikes)
:: Nb. we initially planned to start BT in Skopje. But as we thought that many participants will come over Belgrade, we planned to facilitate the transport BG-Skopje, by trying to get a train together. This we then also can present as campaign to promote bike transport per train. After that (...) we also thought to add an action in Belgrade on the lack of integrated transport policy. However, our initial plan was just to facilitate the transport to Skopje.
:: Conclusion: we don't have money for this train trip. If you are coming from the south of Serbia, maybe its smarter to head/stay in Skopje and join the biketour there, instead of going to Belgrade, and immediately take the train back to Skopje. But of course you are welcome in Belgrade, we love to have you, just then be ready for some expenses for yourself.
The Overview 2012 page outlines the key ideas of the tour of 2012. NOTE THAT THIS PAGE IS NOW HISTORICAL: PLEASE SEE THE HOME PAGE:[[Main_Page] AND THE 2013 PAGE:Biketour_2013.
+ Why are we touring by bicycle? +

# Because it will be a crazy awesome adventure.
# We want to influence by example: if we can travel hundreds of km from one place to the next hauling loads of gear, surely you can manage to ride your bike to go grocery shopping a few km down the road!
# The revolution will be pedal powered.

The route
Degrowth and the Conference in Venice
Degrowth Workshop Can Decreix 21st July

There is a big Degrowth conference from 19th-23rd September 2012, Research and Degrowth here in Barcelona are involved with organising this and it has been proposed that this is the final destination of the tour. We aim to find a camp outside of town to unite us rather than scattering through the city. We would link with the conference with some kind of action and negotiate free entry for BT participants for part of the conference.
