O Centro de Convergência é a proposta de uma estratégia inédita no sentido da dinamização e desenvolvimento de meios rurais, um projecto-piloto agregando diferentes disciplinas que se complementam e interagem entre as ciências sociais e de ambiente, a cultura e a arte. Localiza-se na Freguesia de São Martinho das Amoreiras, concelho de Odemira.

Surge no contexto da campanha contra a desertificação do GAIA : Grupo de Acção e Intervenção Ambiental, organização não-governamental de ambiente. O Centro de Convergência propõe-se como uma infra-estrutura para indivíduos e organizações com projectos inovadores, dirigidos ao meio ambiente e social local, e como sistema organizativo de carácter aberto e dinâmico, não institucional, não partidário e sem hierarquias. É dinamizado por módulos de actividades de longo prazo, garantindo a sustentabilidade da estrutura, admitindo a meio-termo projectos curtos e pontuais. Actualmente consideram-se os seguintes módulos: Arte e Ofícios, Turismo Ético, Permacultura, Investigação-Acção, GAIA regional - Alentejo e DInamização n'Aldeia.
